Personal development through our ROAR Values

Exceptional personal development in our school is guided by the values of resilience, open-mindedness, aspiration, and respect, these manifest in the following ways:

  • Resilience: Children are equipped to bounce back from setbacks. They view challenges as opportunities for growth and learn from their mistakes. They develop coping strategies for dealing with difficult emotions and situations. They are encouraged to persevere even when faced with obstacles.  The school cultivates a safe environment where children feel comfortable taking risks and trying new things without fear of failure. (Challenging curriculum, Opal, Pastoral support and mental health groups)

  • Open-mindedness: Children embrace diversity and appreciate different perspectives. They are curious about the world around them and willing to consider new ideas. They listen respectfully to others, even when they disagree. The school promotes inclusivity and celebrates the richness of different cultures and backgrounds. Children are encouraged to ask questions and challenge their own assumptions. (Strong PSHE and R.E. curriculums, ‘Find your Roar days’, visits to places of worship, Newsround, Assemblies, Clubs Supporting global charity events, British Values, trips and experiences)

  • Aspiration: Children are encouraged to dream big and set ambitious goals for themselves. They are supported in identifying their strengths and talents and developing a sense of purpose. They are exposed to a wide range of opportunities and role models to inspire them. The school fosters a culture of high expectations and provides the resources and support needed for children to reach their full potential. Children are encouraged to believe in themselves and their abilities.(Celebration assemblies for going above and beyond, Snack and Chat with Mrs Hedley, pupil leadership, careers, assemblies, focus aspects on trips - linking to careers)

  • Respect: Children treat everyone with kindness and consideration. They value the opinions and feelings of others. They demonstrate empathy and compassion. They understand the importance of fairness and equality. The school cultivates a culture of mutual respect where everyone feels valued and safe. Bullying and discrimination are not tolerated. Children are taught to respect themselves, others, and the environment. (PSHE, the Wellbeing Hub, recognition of kindness and respect through celebration assemblies, whole school focus on respect, Trips and visitors, respect for themselves, others and their environment around them, variety of clubs)
